The squeaky wheel gets the grease. I get it. I have no hard feelings, btw. I do think that this is a wonderful concept, and the execution is great. You can't control what people post anymore than I can. We cool.

On this, you and I completely agree. And sometimes, those bullies need to be reined in a little.

This is why I emphasize reporting things. If you think that someone is hurting the integrity of the website, then I need to know about it so that I can stop it.

Please keep in mind that we now have sites in 51 counties, along with several state and national sites. If nothing is reported, then odds are strongly against me seeing it, so all I can do is look at the numbers. I see an increase in traffic and posts along with a decrease in reported posts, so everything looks great to me unless someone says otherwise.

I haven't asked you to fix anything, and I have never reported anything because I do believe in the right of free speech. I'm not asking for more censorship. I was just offering my two cents to support the OP's opinion, so that he/she doesn't feel like they are the only one that has noticed this. I don't know why a few people get their kicks by bullying others on gowilkes, and I don't really expect anyone to know other than the ones doing the posting. This is just food for thought. I'm just pointing out that it can be hurtful to those on the receiving end. Think before you type people.

I'm not trying to incite any arguments. I am just stating my observation regarding this site. Argue against it all you want, but it won't change the fact that my experience on this site is usually more negative than positive, and that is just disappointing. Seeing how you have blatantly argued with some of the users of this site that are just providing feedback regarding their experience is even more disappointing. I'm sure if I had a negative experience consistently at a retail store and provided that feedback to the manager, he would not argue that I just had a ****ty outlook on life. Maybe take a step back, and see that people are just pointing out an experience that is relative to them.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm asking you to be more specific. Looking at the 400 posts currently on the first page, excluding this thread, exactly which post(s) are you saying are a problem?

As I said before, neither you nor the OP have reported anything (ever, I don't think), so if you've seen a problem then you haven't said anything. Instead, you're giving a general complaint with nothing I can fix, and there's little that I can do with that.

Generally when I see negativity it's posts that are political or religious etc. Those seem to bring on the negativity and of course threads like this one that was created with the goal of starting drama.

I've tried and tried to be nice to Justcause24 and she won't let anyone be nice to her. She's the type that thrives on negativity and attention. So when she mentioned me specifically I responded to her. inpain, it seems to be just one certain poster in particular that I personally think has numerous names and talks to herself on these threads, to just keep drama going. I don't know why I was singled out by her

I have to say that I agree with the OP. GoWilkes, while your points are valid, they are still just as open to interpretation as any others. I'm sure that those threads you are referring to as positive on the homepage still have a large amount of trolling and nasty, snide remarks hidden throughout.

No, I went through them all before I replied to this one. The only negative post in any of them was actually from the OP of that thread, saying that people were being nasty when no one had said one negative thing.

Roll it around and spin it anyway you want, the trolling and downright rudeness by just a handful of the posters on this site are really dragging it down and stopping it from being a great tool that the entire county uses more readily. This website has a reputation in the county, and it isn't a great one. I still think that this is a good site, and a fantastic concept. It's a shame that a few people use it to bully others.

I would point out that you, too, have never reported anything. If the trolling and rudeness is so rampant, why aren't you reporting it?

I would also point out that, from my experience, the majority of negative posts come from people complaining about negative posts. Like the post from justcause24 that I described earlier. If you want people to stop being negative, stop giving them attention and focus on the positive.

With more than 120,000 unique visitors a week, I would say that the entire county does use GoWilkes pretty readily. If it has a negative reputation (which it doesn't), then it's from people wrongly judging the site based on the extreme minority.

And yes, trolling happens all the time online, on all types of websites. However, I've personally never used any other site where the trolling was as rampant and predictable as it is on GoWilkes.com.

I've been using message boards and newsgroups since 1995, and personally, I've never seen an active message board that's as friendly as GoWilkes!

I've been on numerous message boards that are overly moderated, and while forced to be friendly, they'll have 10-20 posts a day. I've also been a member of newsgroups that aren't moderated at all, and you'll see that trolling and fighting is 90% of the posts.

Keeping that in mind, seeing 400 posts on the main page with only 1 negative post (not counting the ones in this thread) is an exceptional level of positivity.

I have yet to meet anyone in Wilkes that you have referred to. I have seen some worthless bums but, they have those everywhere much like pillbillys.
