Insurance companies are required to pay over 80 percent of premiums back in claims. There is no underwriting anymore. This year all the folks who needed major organ transplant surgery jumped on board. Premiums have to rise. If the healthy folks get in increases should level off to a more reasonable amount. Everyone hates the premiums, but when a surgery can cost a hundred grand, what do you expect?

If hospitals, doctors, and pharmacys had to compete for your business I think the prices would go down. The insurance companies would want to send you to the places that provided the best service for the least amount.Doctors and Hospitals would have to quit charging whatever they desire. Insurance companies would have competition with the price of premiums. What makes me PO'ed about the government is the fact that they have never tried to do anything about the exorbitant costs of health services. That lets me think that the doctors and health care corporations pushed the Obama Plan. My wife's doctor thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread. When the democrats attack Tillis and others by saying where's their plan I want the Republicans to say, We have no plan. What would be wrong with letting things go back to where we were. The ACA hasn't helped anybody I've talked to.

Oh, I don't think any corporation has a real interest in morality or ethics (except maybe Hobby Lobby and Chick Fil A). Most of the big corporations have skeletons in their closets and make cozy deals with officials (whichever party may be in power). We are learning that in many cases the regulators are paid for by the wolves they are supposed to watch. Some level of shenanigans is sadly to be expected.

Americans pay far more for much less. Big pharma and insurance corporations reap tremendous profits on the backs of taxpayers. Government policy has been manipulated by corrupt but legal lobbying to protect those trillions.

When the lives of the consumers are part of the question there must be at the very least governmental oversight and regulation.

It's not ridiculous at all. Every company is in business to make a profit. Some want to make the biggest profit legally available to them. Others choose to reinvest some portion of their profits in altruistic projects. Only the investors get to develop company policy.
