Classic Sugar Cookies

Makes a great snack and something you can add your own ideas with and let the kids get creative!

1 cup Crisco butter flavor shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3 large eggs lightly beaten
4 cups all purpose
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cream of tarter
1 tsp salt

Beat shortening, sugar, and brown sugar in large bowl with large mixer on medium speed until creamy. Add milk and vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Combine flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt in separate large bowl. Add gradually to shortening mixture, beating until well blended. Cover and chill for one hour.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out 1/3 dough at a time on lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes with floured 2 to 3 inch cookie cutters. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cook on baking sheet for 2 minutes.

If desired, frost and decorate.

Makes 4 or 5 dozen cookies.
