nchillbilly. From what I have heard and what I've read Slavery was never the reason for the invasion of the South but that's how people today wants to believe because they have become Slaves. Wage earner is a fancy name for (Slavery) take what I give you and shut up or I will find someone else to do the job cheaper. You noticed that the government is saying it's not demanding you to take the vaccine but if you don't. You don't eat work so you slave on doing what government says. People should read old news papers from 1865-1870 big difference from what history books tell. Thousands of people Blacks and whites died because of sickness hunger dysentery. Think about it. It took them 100 years to pay France what in today's money is 21 billion dollars. How weird is that?

Does anybody else find it odd that reparations for slavery in the past was made to the owners of the slaves and never the slaves. Take Haiti for example.

Michaelhjsr that was an interesting read. It made me think of the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery. That was never it's direct intent. It allowed US forces to confiscate any and all properties of the "southern "Rebels" that could be used to aid in the rebellion which could include slaves guns food stockpiles and so on. Union armies operating in the south often continued using the so called "freed slaves" to repair rail lines, grave diggers for dead soldiers digging trenches and driving as well as loading and unloading wagons. The Emancipation Proclamation was claimed publicly as the first step towards ending slavery and is still to this day falsely sold as the end of slavery but not to rally people in the North to support the war effort. Many in the North were outraged by the idea that the war was now about slavery. Many people who had sons or brothers or fathers fighting in the Union armies urged their family members to desert from the armies down south and many did. Entire regiments did desert and went home. Even amongst those in the north who did oppose slavery not many felt that ending slavery was worth risking life and limb for or losing a loved one over.

The Lincoln administration was well aware that the Confederacy was trying to gain recognition from Europe as a sovereign nation (which it never gained) and gain intervention from at least one of those nations. The European power that the Confederacy courted most was Britain mainly because the Confederacy was hoping the British Navy would break up the blockades of the Confederate ports. But most of Europe opposed slavery and that included Britain. When Lincoln was able to spin the Civil War as a war to end slavery effectively that killed any hopes of intervention from Britain or any other European power. This was the main reason the Emancipation Proclamation was proclaimed to be about ending slavery. But slavery didn't end even after the war. Indentured servants from China were brought to the US in large numbers to build the rail roads that connected east to west which was no different than how the British used indentured servitude in the Colonial days. Chain gangs were nothing but another form of indentured servitude as well. Our history text books are so full of lies it is better to not teach history at all than to teach it the way it is taught.
