County Commissioners

I personally know the Buff family and although I am only another voter, I can speak about Rodney Buff. He is dedicated and fair and he knows what service and commitment mean. The Board needs new blood with new ideas that will grow and sustain our county. There are many candidates and it seems the same ones get elected each time. Why don't we take a chance on someone new and give them the chance to improve and promote our county? Mr. Buff is a family man, man who believes in service to his country and his fellow citizens. Give him a try.

Is there anyone I can vote for that has actually done something that helped Wilkes County?

The last real County Commissioner's hand I shook was Jack Comb's. These people need someone to tie their shoe laces for them.

Look @ all the affiliations in the county office buildings that is passed down by generations to the next generations.Who has employed these county commissioners in the past? When speaking on county employees pay, seems they forget that the county taxes pay for these employees benefits that are attached to jobs.

can’t fool me

Keep in mind that with a board of 5, it takes 3 affirmative votes to push or implement any agenda. I wish the county would go back to the way it was, 3 seats were up every two years, the third place finisher only got a two year term.

Won't be voting for any Democrats, but will also not be voting for Greg Minton or David Gambill. Career politicans just like to ride the train. Slim pickings and have not made up my mind who I will be voting for but these 2 are not on that list. They have had their time and done nothing. Bye, Bye

The COUNTY commissioner's have absolutely nothing to do with JCs sink hole, That would be Town Of Wilkesboro's boards goat rope.

Buff is right. Gambill has been in eight years and Minton four years. So why did they wait until their re-election to consider county employee pay raises. Nothing more than a lie from those two to get votes. DRAIN THE SWAMP AND KEEP SETH COHNhead out.

I've had enough so I'm voting for Buff!!!!

Watch out Gary Blevins in two years. Your next!!!!!!

Sensitive JC will be made to clean up that mess, by the state most likely. The town it's scared they will end up being stuck with the tab if they push him too far. From what I hear Chapter 11 again is very possible. He is selling off assets to stay afloat

I've asked you several questions on this thread and got ZERO response from you. One last question; Do you really believe anyone is going to vote for you?

Buff for County Commissioner

Posted 7:43 pm, 04/11/2018

There was an article printed in yesterday's Wilkes Journal Patriot that was about the views of the candidates for Wilkes County Commissioner. I am 41 years old and I have been voting since I was 18. One thing that gets me fired up quick, is for a politician to say something to get a vote and do the opposite. Hypocrisy and misleading statements are why people do not trust politicians.

One issue all candidates agreed on was that Wilkes County government employees are under paid. This includes the candidates running for reelection who have been in office for 4 and 8 years. This is not a new problem and they have had plenty of time to address the issue. Now they are concerned about it because it is an election year and they need votes. This is the behavior of a politician, not a leader. This is of one the reasons Wilkes County has high rates of poverty, a lack of jobs, and poor health outcomes.

Wilkes County needs elected officials who are willing to fight for the people of Wilkes. Everyone who knows me will tell you that I can work with anyone but I am not afraid to stand up for what is right. If you are wrong, I am not afraid to call you out. As County Commissioner, I will be the one out there fighting for the people of Wilkes County to make sure we leave Wilkes County better than we found it. Had enough? Vote Rodney Buff!

Tuition is mostly free now. Almost any kid here in Wilkes can get Pell grants and that is about $5000 a year. As someone that gives scholarships to Wilkes kids, I was shocked to learn that their education is already funded through Pell. And this is not a loan. They do not pay it back.

As far as the library, I would think that everyone would support lower income individuals and children to have access to books and computers.

We're getting pretty far off topic here, but IMO the community college should be tuition-free, too. I agree that education is key, and it's tax funded, so it should be doing the things that the library does but without competing with other businesses.

But this is not an original argument:

Oh Anti, it's ok if we disagree ☺ You are reasonable, and I understand your point. I just feel like so many people in the county benefit from the programs at the library and it provides access to books and ideas that so many in the county either cannot afford or would not otherwise have exposure to. It levels the playing field in my opinion, and to agree with Crypt, education is the way out.

But yes, you and I usually do agree on the same things :)

Anti, I disagree with your comments about the library.

The library is a public entity and it's FREE. WCC and online bookstores are not. It is not in it for the monetary gain. We all benefit from having a public library with a wealth of resources and programs for all ages. Our entire region benefits. More education = more educated people = more jobs

This may be a rare time that you and I disagree, ht IMO, though, the library is NOT free if it's funded by tax money.

We have had great book stores in the county, but they struggle to survive because people can just go get books for free at the library. That makes no sense to me, when a business pays taxes that directly fund its competition.

Further, authors make no money when people read books at a library. And few authors write books just for the fun of it.

The library may not be in it for the monetary gain, but they do affect the monetary gain of others. And I believe it was Mark Twain that adamanetly opposed his books being in libraries, because he would rather people buy them (I couldn't find the quote, though, so it may not have been Twain).

Ants, you blithering idiot.

The Wilkes Library is the depository of a wealth of information in their genealogy room.

The children's section is used every day.

Neither of these are available at WCC.

Our library has meeting rooms available and used for many programs.

As far as other people not having problems with the Cohns, you don't know the right people.

Conrad, I wish you would not call names. I am with you on the library though! It is one of my favorites places in town :)
