Now the DNS Cache in every computer will have to be flushed.

This all could have been avoided if the batteries in every UPS on the planet were replaced every 2 years as I have ordered. It doesn't matter if the battery status is indicating OK, I said REPLACE them! Thank You!

Jason, you host your own server correct? If the problem was centurylink throttling back traffic, all traffic into the server would be affected, not just centurylink users.

You dogs are at the mercy of your ISP now that crooks run this country. Many think that because they have denied remote access and have a mile long password set on their very own router, that noone including the ISP can log on to their router. Well keep on thinking.

Good point, and that does seem to be what's happening since GoWilkes will still load, albeit slowly.
I've had dozens of emails from CenturyLink users, so I know that this problem is happening with everyone. There's just no apparent way to get in touch with someone at CenturyLink to get it resolved. If anyone here has a higher contact than I do, please pass this along to them!

actually the * could mean they just didn't respond... it could be still passing the traffic.

CenturyLink users can go here to log a complaint:
Maybe if several people explain the same problem they will finally pay attention. You need to explain that it's not just at your house, the same problem is happening with all CenturyLink users across the county. CenturyLink is timing out at or near the 5th hop, after reaching the IP connection 209.181.216.2 You can see this for yourself if you want. On your PC go to Start > Run, and type "cmd" (without the quotes). In the box that opens, type:
tracert gowilkes.com
When you see an * it means that the attempt to connect failed. When you see 3 * in a row, it means that the entire connection failed. On my end, I'm seeing a successful connection to 209.181.216.2, then the next one fails.

Problem definitely wasn't resolved. I'm chatting with support now, who can't seem to grasp the concept that the problem is on their end. Sooo frustrated
I could see an obvious drop in traffic yesterday from CenturyLink users, so I know the problem is affecting everyone. And no, "Kim" @ CenturyLink, restarting my home router isn't going to help!!
I wish I could change to Wilkes Telephone, too, but they don't come out here. But I'm losing traffic and money right now because of CenturyLink, so I really need them to fix their problem.
I can't help but wonder if they're throttling GoWilkes on purpose... Net Neutrality?

I hate Century Link, I pay for high speed and mine is so slow. When you call there customer service they are not helpful. Sue wish Wilkes Telephone served my area in Millers Creek.

The Crypt 6G TeraNet will solve "the last mile" dilemma with single mode fiber entering each residence through the municipal sewage pipe. The toilet will be the router which will reboot with every flush.

Century Link (finally) confirmed that they do have a known outage, and that's what is causing the problem. It's expected to be fixed by 5am.
So I suspect that everyone on Century Link was having a problem connecting to GoWilkes. Why it wasn't affecting other sites, though, I don't know (which means that everyone will assume the problem is on my end)... I'm guessing it just happened to be the servers at that 5th hop.

I was timing out last night, maybe it was my location though.

Yeah, they're usually my backup plan, too. But I'm still timing out on the 5th hop, which is right between "qwest" (which I'm pretty sure is Century Link) and my bandwidth provider.

Have you tried OpenDNS? 208.67.222.222
Often it works better than google.

But, but... I just use it for background sound, that's OK isn't it?
I think it's Century Link. I changed the DNS from Google DNS to Century Link DNS but it didn't help. I ran a tracert report on both, and it's timing out around the 5th hop right when it gets to Century Link's server.
It's just making it REAL hard to moderate... pages are timing out, I had to refresh this page 3 times just to post a response! C'mon, Century Link, you guys are killing me!

I told you to quit watching p**n from the same computer you use to update the server. Now the server has internet aids.
