In my opinion some of them are not paid enough and some of them are paid way to much. How ever if they want more deductions change their employment to a contractor paid with a 1099 and then they can deduct all they want along with paying their own taxes and insurance.

They are paid appropriately

They are still regular employees and should not be able to deduct work related expenses just like the rest of us. If they want to be able to deduct work related expenses then let them become Contractors and pay them with a 1099.

Teachers play a vital role in our society. They have a college degree and should be payed appropriately. They probably spend more time with your kids then you do. But on the subject of taxes. A lot of deductions were removed. But the standard deduction was doubled. HR Block told me that I would have gotten back $3200 this year if it was filed under the new tax laws. Instead I got $120. So yeah. It’s a big deal.

I agree with Joseph T! I'm sick of hearing these teachers complain! It's a profession they chose & it pays well. Also, they are free to quit & find another job. And they are already counting down the days to summer break on F B. Pathetic. No sympathy from me.

I never said anything about the job. I’m talking about the worker. Lots of jobs are important. But the workers don’t think they are entitled.

If they would spend their time educating instead of indoctrinating it would be an important job.

Teachers are always whining like they are more important than everyone else.

Where the Sheriff dept.is located now,I volunteered for the old Woodward middle school to call from the call center located in the old bank building. We had a lot of people wiling to donate funds to help the school, but we had those that had 40 excuses not to.2018 you can donate funds to any school in Wilkes county to help with purchasing needed school supplies. Some of the donated funds may be used to purchase clothing or other needs for school children.Check with the school in your area if you wish to donate. You can always Stuff the Bus! $ may be tax deductible.

OS, when is the last time you have been truly involved in the schools? It is rare for people to have field trips- nothing like it was when I was little. In Wilkes County Schools, the children only have recess on days that they don't have PE. This is in Kindergarten! Children should be able to play- that is how you process the world (LEARN) when the brain is young.

Money levels the playing field. There are some who have more than they could spend in a lifetime- good for them, but they should not be privy to tax cuts to have even more! The amount of qualified teachers has dropped dramatically and the amount of emergency licenses has increased tremendously.

Maybe you could volunteer in a school. That is the best way to be part of the solution :)

FOLKS! You are missing the picture here. Dimocrats have jerked out their standard playbook here. We see this every midterm and most full term elections. Dimocrats are whipping up the base of the NEA voting block. Expect to see walk-outs, picket signs and a "bond" issue on the ballot. More money is not the solution for the failing education system. They could slow down the field trips and picnics and save thousands. No I didn't say cut them out I said slow down. Try keeping them in a classroom and teaching them how to figure out simple math so they can make change at McDonalds. Honestly, I bet there is not 5% of the graduating class that can figure gas mileage or tell you the 3 branches of government. If I remember correctly they were given an increase in pay to cover the $250.

I'm not too good at arithmetic, but it seems like a 100% deduction for a new corporate jet is just a little MORE than I ever got ?

You can do better than that, get up off your potty chair, stand up and close your eyes, and say dear Lord would you please rescue me from this negative, loser attitude that I somehow have gotten myself into. This mental infirmity is driving me insane.

Why do teachers give their kids all this stuff to feed the lib agenda. Soros buys the vote by even using the children. Free stuff like obummer did. Next thing you know them kids will vote and that will be an end to our culture. My teachers never give me stuff.

Sorry Joseph, no matter what you think, the fact that a teacher can write off $250 for school supplies means that a teacher is in business to purchase school supplies.

No their not they are county employees who job is to teach school they are not in the business to provide school supplies. If I can't deduct my CDL physical or DL or work books why should they get to deduct stuff they buy for work that they don't need?

why compare a $250 tax deduction to a multi million dollar tax deduction??

If you can afford and justify a plane as a business purchase good for you. If you need it for work and it is a cost of doing business that is a legitimate tax write off. I hope one day I can write off a private jet.

It sounds more like someone trying to villainize companies with money instead of actually being worried about teachers and their taxes.

Under new tax laws a teacher is only allowed to deduct a maximum of $250 dollars for purchased school supplies, but a businessman can deduct the FULL price of a corporate jet ?

Ever stop to think why this is? Because the Gov't already pays for all the school supplies. If the teacher wants to buy some other unneeded supplies, they are limited. Makes perfect sense.
