you happen to survive, you can grow sunflowers to help irradiate your area.
#Why would one want to irradiate their area?

Climate change is a lie. The earth is undergoing a natural cycle just as all the planets in our system.

Why can't they worry about both?
An EMP could kill people, I guess. But climate change WILL kill people. It's happening, we see it happening, and we know for an indisputable fact what the outcome will be at this rate. It's painfully naive to say we should ignore it.
But back to the topic...
Sunflower seeds! Not only can you eat them, but sunflowers are shown to remove radiation! So if there's a nuclear bomb dropped in the US and you happen to survive, you can grow sunflowers to help irradiate your area.

This is what the government should be worrying about instead of climate change. If you're not familiar with the Carrington Event... read up on it.

I suppose that a certain amount of stockpiling would be advisable. If things get that bad folks had better start learning to live a different lifestyle. If you are young, I would advise in investing in property that is suitable for growing crops. Not only for your consumption but to maintain those creatures which in turn contribute towards your welfare. Most of you do not have the skills or time to learn how to survive that way, so you probably wouldn't make it anyway!

antitheses: Speaking of scurvy, I've learned that you can freeze lemons, limes and oranges...whole or sliced. They should be good for at least 6 months. I think I would slice them. The consistency of these citrus fruits might be mushy when they thaw, but one could use them in smoothies, tea, etc.

Wise things to stockpile would be water, beans, rice, white potatoes, salt, and butter.
A human can live indefinitely on potatoes, butter, and salt. You'll get bored, but you'll survive.
Beans are full of protein, so they're a great choice. Except for green beans, which have no real nutritional value.
Another important staple that's often overlooked... entertainment!! Have plenty of books and games on hand. In long term isolation, boredom has been reported to be the most debilitating problem.
