Actually, those whole house filters only reduce sediment. Bacteria and parasites will pass through.

I had the same thing at my house, same day. My water is still weird looking, cloudy white. I am on West Wilkes water. Going to have to call them today, I can't drink this water that's for sure.

I would still call the city and ask them if there's a problem with the water, and if so how long before it's safe to drink. Even if it looks clear it could still have bacteria in it from whatever they've done.
You might also want to invest in a whole-house water filter. They're around $50 at Lowes and not too hard to install, but it will protect you from most bacteria in the water.
And don't forget to flush the water heater out! I burned mine up a few years ago from something similar... 10 minutes of work could have saved me $600

Yes, it's city water. I did what you suggested, much better. Also, the water has turned from brown to white, so at least it's getting better.

This is city water, right? Not a well?
Since the water was off and now it's on, maybe you just need to flush the lines. I'd wait until the morning, and then run the cold water for about 5 minutes. Assuming that the problem with the lines is fixed, then that should flush out any problem.
Either way, Crypt is smart to tell you to cut off the water heater! And when the problem is fixed, be sure to drain it and refill it before you turn it back on, or all the crud could burn up the elements.

So cut the breaker off to your ekectric hotwater heater until the water pressure returns and you've bled the air so the heating elements won't burn up.

I came home tonight to find I had no water. Two hours later, the water is coming out brown with a lot of air in the pipes. Anyone else having this issue?
