If they worried about cleaning up all the trash instead of a place for druggies to hide out we'd be a lot better off.

Seems like BS to me, those ****s think they can take someones land just because they want it. F'em. I hope Mr.Brown NEVER changes his mind.

F'ing scum.

To take privately owned property in such a manner for this reason would defile the very core of Humanity, Civility and Integrity. We have enough Greenway and the Yadkin River is the only water intake that we need for for at least a million years.

Let Mr. Brown have his cows back in the field and apologize to him for having them taken out in the first place. We might as well have a little pig and cow manure on the greenway as to have to walk through duck manure over at the walking track at the college. A little of the good country aroma from cow and pig manure might help overcome the order that comes out of the town sewer plants at the lower end of the Wilkesboros.

"Let me just say this . The Yadkin River Greenway is NOT part of, or governed by, the town of Wilkesboro. It is a non profit group mostly consisting of volunteers."

Then why do you expect government to condemn it?

I never said I didn't use the greenway. Show me where I did.

Condemning someone's property for ANY kind of gain is just plain wrong! The mayor was raised up here in Wilkes and shouldn't have voted while on the board to get rid of a man's cattle just because the Wilkesboro upper curst complained. Nobody complains about that chicken litter smell that envelops the towns in the spring I now see why that fellow converted his baseball field on the greenway to a hog farm..

Why not condemn part of the Ken Acres neighborhood and the other areas where people complained so much about the cows all those years ago and trade it to Mr. Brown for the easement? Perhaps it would appease him.

Seriously, who lived in Ken Acres and had the influence to pull one on the Browns and why did they find cattle and farm machinery so offensive? Or where they mad at Brown over something else? It just doesn't make sense-cattle and farm machinery are just part of the scenery around here.

We're never going to get anywhere in this county-all we do is fight over old grudges.

Applaud Johnny's decision. The arrogant town board way overstepped their bounds with his family in the past.

Let me just say this . The Yadkin River Greenway is NOT part of, or governed by, the town of Wilkesboro. It is a non profit group mostly consisting of volunteers. I agree that Wilkesboro over stepped its authority by making Mr. Brown take his cows out, but the Greenway shouldn't`t suffer because of this. The Greenway actually doesn`t take the land from land owners. All it does is get an easement on a narrow strip of land (I think 30ft wide ), along the river side. Most of this strip is in the area of the tree line next to the river and doesn't`t take usable grazing or hay acreage. Although some of you may not use the Greenway (G&G ), as indicated by the time you spend on GW, it is used by a lot of us health conscious Wilkes Countians. It actually adds to the overall quality of life here and is used as a recruitment tool by various agencies to promote Wilkes County. So to get an easement, along side the river to connect our segmented Greenway and make it whole, as it should be, I don`t think is too much to ask the Browns to bury the hatchet.

Maby FF should make a very generous offer to buy the land in question and Grant the easement to the greenway. I'm sure it wouldn't be to much of a burden being for the greater good and all.

( nscore was referring to a decision by Wilkesboro’s governing body that kept Brown’s father, the late Mack Brown of Watauga County, from continuing to have his beef cattle on the property in question. The Wilkesboro governing body’s decision resulted from residents of the Ken Acres neighborhood and other nearby areas complaining about the cattle.

Noland said Wilkesboro officials actually didn’t have this authority because the Brown property wasn’t in the town limits then, as is the case now.

They got a hella lot of nerve asking that family for anything.

It's his land and he should be allowed to do what he wants to with it.

It looks like in the past the board denied this family use of their property through backhanded loopholes. And now are reaping what they sowed. Even if the counsel is coming hat in hand I can't say I blame Mr Brown. If I were Mr Brown the counsels talk of further backhanded intrusions on my property ( condemnation of the property) would only harden my position. To be honest even bringing up the option of condemning the property in my opinion is shameful. And is the same thought process that lead to this situation in the first place. I do not know Mr Brown but I have a feeling that if he hadn't been wronged by the town government in the past that this would probably be a non issue and easements would have been granted. If you are not a land owner with all that entails then its kinda hard to relate or argue either way because you have no skin in the game.
