Merging the 2 towns would have no effect on people outside the city limits. Why pay for 2 mayors, 2 police chiefs, and paying 2 town boards? It is ridiculous. Common sense would tell you that taxes would be lower because of less expense. The only ones I think that would oppose it would be the 2 mayors, 2 police chiefs and the 2 town boards.

So what tax rate will apply if the two towns are combined? Wilkesboro is 48 cents and North Wilkesboro is 52 cents. Do you really think that they would lower the tax rate to Wilkesboro's ? You know that it would not happen, so look forward to paying more taxes.

The original spelling of the town was Wilkesborough. The ten acre site was deeded to the town from Hugh Montgomery's daughters.
