I think this is the needed reason for the study is to see how it would work and how best to serve all citizens. I think they should keep the same buildings and just have one police chief over both units. The same with all other duplicate departments.

Let's think....they have about 10 stores in downtown, they have a few restaurants, Key city antiques, a couple insurance companies. They have a hospital where the town board screwed up when they did not know the details of the contract. And they purchased how many properties ? One I think they originally sold for nothing, and then purchased it back for a large amount of money. Where are new homes being built? Not in NW.

I think the police stations and fire departments would stay where they are, but there would be one police chief and 1 fire chief. The only difference would be 1 town board for both towns and 1 mayor.

The petition claims only one police department, but where would it be located? If either department is left where it is, it would take a longer response time for one side of the town to the other. Does that mean that a new police department building and fire department building needs to be built to provide equal services to both sides of the new town?

Signing the petition only says that you are willing to spend 50,000 to 70,000 dollars to perform a study. It will not merge the towns.

Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro was settled by two different types of people. North Wilkesboro was not created to benefit Wilkes county. It's purpose was to disrupt the economy of the county. The state thought Wilkes was to influential so, North Wilkesboro was created to reduce Wilkes's influence.

I do not think anyone presently serving in either towns should be on a new board. A complete new start. I know both mayors and town boards would not agree. But if the public support it, they will have no choice but to let it happen. Everyone should sign petition and set it in motion. Show that this county needs a change and it can start with the towns.

The towns have a difficult time working together now. If they are combined the people would end up with a town board that would not work together. Nothing would get approved or done. Just making one town out of two would not solve the problem of not working together.

If there was a merger Wilkesboro is in the strongest position. Why would North Wilkesboro come out in charge? North Wilkesboro is a bunch of losers. I am sorry follower democrats but you are a bunch of losers.

Why should it same the same? Why should the 2 towns try to compete against each other? Why not work together? Years ago when NW was in the superior position, no way would they merge. Now Wilkesboro is better than NW.

The people of Wilkesboro should be opposed to the merge. It will mean higher taxes for them. The most that I have ever seen tax reduce by is one penny by the county. So don't look for lower taxes unless you live in North Wilkesboro, it might go down by a penny.

Expense would not be that much less. Might lose one position per department, but it would not be that much. Taxes are not ruled by common sense. Merge the two towns and they will still come up with new ways to spend tax dollars. The area will still be the same size......so it will still take the same number of people to provide the services.
