Not if your idea of an excise tax was put in place

The poor still have the same guns and ammo they've always had.

Like always, crypt wants to punish the poor and work to keep them poor

I'm talking about a State excise tax in addition to the normal sales tax. We have already missed out on millions of dollars the nuts would have gladly paid.

Another good reason to never register your guns. There should never be any tax on guns. In fact, there should never be any type of property tax on anything.

I wouldn't say that I am a lawful gun owner and have a CHP after passing a local, State, FBI background check. But I would never register my firearm since it is no business of the Government what firearms I own any more than what books I read.

The gun owners you should be concerned about will never register their guns any way.

And just what do you think such a database will accomplish

Nothing at all.

Let me give you a hint to that answer.

In 2000, the state of Maryland started requiring all manufacturers to fire every weapon to be sold in the state of Maryland (something they all do any way) and include one of the fired shell casings with the firearm so that the state could register the firearm in a "fingerprint" database of firearms to help solve crimes. In 2015 they abandoned the database because after spending millions and millions of dollars, the system had helped solve ZERO crimes. ZERO. But the whole idea seemed logical to many liberal gun owners.

(1) I do believe in the 2nd Amendment, but I also think logically. I think that it's reasonable for there to be a database of legal gun owners, along with a list of guns they legally own.
(2) There should also be a required annual license and insurance, requiring the owners to keep the list updated.

(3) And if a gun is stolen or lost, any damages done by the criminal that stole it would be covered by that gun owners insurance.
(4) And there should be a state sales tax on guns and ammunition. That tax should go towards funding the police departments that deal directly with criminals using guns.

I don't see any of that as a violation of the 2nd Amendment.

(1) There is a federal law and NC State law against a data base of gun owners and the guns they own.

(2) No one should be required to have a annual license and insurance to exercise any of their rights.

(3) No one should be libel for the damage done by a criminal. What if your car is stolen and the thief is drunk or high and causes an accident killing people do you believe that you or your insurance should be responsible.

What if a criminal breaks into your house and then sets it on fire to try and cover up the break in and the fire sets the country side a blas and several of your neighbors houses get burned down as well should you or your homeowner insurance be responsible?

(4) There are state level sales taxes on guns and ammo just like almost everything else in this State.

I want everyone to have all the ammo they can afford. We have to capitalise on the gun nut's paranonoia while we can. An excise tax on gunpowder is the best and most fair way of making sure the right ones pay.

Yes that is a federal excise that is paid by the manufacturer and built into the price.

I tried to look it up but couldn't find the case you're talking about. I did, however, find this:

https://www.ttb.gov/...l#tax_rate

I didn't know this, but there's already an 11% sales tax on ammunition.

Cigarette's are not a item protected by the Constitution like firearms are some where there is a court ruling that says ammo is just as much protected as firearms since they would be useless without ammo. I wish I still had the case url but it got lost when my cpu crashed. Crypt has pretty much stated that he would like to tax ammo out of existence

How is it a poll tax? Is it really any different from the cigarette tax?

Joseph T.

Posted 5:43 pm, 05/29/2016

That would be the same as a poll tax are you for that as well.

Crypt

I say we tax each round of ammo based on how much powder it contains and use the money to build a nice mental institution.
