A 13-year-old carjacker is dead after he targeted the car of an off-duty federal officer in DC

He had "been accused in a string of previous carjackings," and had even been arrested last year, when he was 12 years old.

He was "known to the Metropolitan Police Department," Acting Chief of Police Pamela Smith said to media, "and it's just unfortunate that this particular incident happened on Saturday night that caused him to no longer be here."

Like many U.S. cities, crime in Washington is surging. Compstat data show a 30% surge in homicide in the city relative to last year, and a 70% surge in robbery.

Man Pleads Guilty in Robbery, Shooting & Fire, gets off for time served

One of the three men charged in the 2017 death of 40-year-old Harry Lewis "Wesley" Bruner Jr. pleaded guilty during Catawba County Superior Court last week.
Lennon Riley Henderson, 22, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and first-degree arson. Henderson was sentence to 38 to 58 months in prison, according to court documents.

Henderson had around 51 months of credit for time served, exactly 1,530 days, according to the documents. Henderson was 16 when the crime was committed in August of 2017.

Bruner's body was found when firefighters responded to a fire at his home north of Maiden on Aug. 5, 2017, according to previous Hickory Daily Record articles.

The autopsy report revealed a single gunshot wound to the head was the cause of Bruner's death, according to court documents.

So the guy gets about 4 years for this heinous crime... and credit for 51 months time served. Seems to me somebody in the justice system should go to jail.

Former Massachusetts correctional officer accused of having sex with inmate

A former Massachusetts correctional officer is heading to trial accused of preying on an inmate with mental health issues for money and having sex behind prison walls.

Charlotte Ferro resigned from the Department of Correction in the wake of these allegations. She's accused of having sexual relations with Nathan Williams, who is a prisoner at Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley.

Williams was one of the children placed in that foster home "house of horrors" decades ago who will receive part of a historic $7 million settlement reached with the Department of Children and Families last month. According to court and DCF records, he was severely sexually, mentally and physically abused in the state-licensed foster home of Ray and Susan Blouin in Oxford years ago.

Williams is now serving time for rape. Prosecutors say Charlotte Ferro researched Williams' background, knew he was part of a lawsuit filed against DCF and groomed him for money. The alleged victim told the judge he was targeted and manipulated.

Wow... some prison guards and a few teachers are giving women a bad rap!

A second suspect has been arrested in connection to a hit-and-run incident that killed retired Las Vegas police chief Andreas Probst while he was riding his bicycle last month.Probst was severely injured after a vehicle driven by two teenagers intentionally collided with him from behind, causing him to flip onto the car and off his bike, later falling onto the road.

The other teenager, in the passenger's seat, filmed the whole incident and posted the video to social media, which went viral as outraged swelled over the hit-and-run attack.

Due to the hit-and-run being an intentional act, LVMPD Homicide detectives took over the investigation and the charges against the driver will be amended to include open murder.

On September 19, detectives were able to locate the passenger and placed him under arrest. He will be booked into the Clark County Juvenile Hall where he is facing charges for Open Murder.

Monday, the Clark County District Attorney's Office said

Prosecutors: Mail carrier pleads guilty to stealing checks worth nearly $9 million in total value.

A woman and her husband pleaded guilty on Friday to federal charges for conspiring to commit an extensive mail theft scheme in Charlotte.

Kiara Padgett and her spouse, Dominique Dunlap, both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank fraud, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of NC said. In addition to those charges, Dunlap also pleaded guilty to four counts of possession of stolen mail.

Padgett, who was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, used her position as a postal carrier to steal incoming and outgoing checks from businesses and individuals, court documents revealed.

Documents showed that Padgett sold the stolen checks, using Dunlap as an intermediary between her and other parties. One of those parties was Terrell Alexander Hager Jr. He, along with co-conspirators, deposited the stolen checks into bank accounts they controlled and made cash withdrawals before fraud could be detected.

Prosecutors found that throughout the course of the scheme, Hager Jr. and his co-conspirators deposited more than $66,000 in stolen checks and money orders. They also found that he posted more than 400 stolen checks for sale, totaling more than $7.3 million in total value.

The checks Hager Jr. posted for sale were believed to have been stolen from Padgett's postal route. Court documents revealed that he had been receiving the checks from August 2021 to November 2022.

Officials said the total face value of checks stolen by Padgett was more than $8.8 million. Her route was in west Charlotte.

Padgett, Dunlap and Hager Jr. could each face a maximum prison term of 30 years and could be subject to a $1 million for the bank fraud conspiracy charge. Dunlap also faces five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of the charges of possession of stolen mail.
