Old School 1951

Don't mistreat these old folks. They are the ones that built the house that has the basement you live in. These are the ones that worked and built the businesses that hire some of you and pay for the food stamps for the rest. Yes they worked and paid for the roads, schools, hospitals, etc. that you walk and run your mopeds on, babysit your illegitimate children and give you pain pills. They have had the guts to put their lives on the line so you can picnic on Memorial Day, buy the fireworks for your 4th of July celebrations and put money in the banks to finance your cars. Don't kick these guys around, some of them are Veterans, law enforcement and successful business men just trying to take a break before they leave you the greatest country on the face of the earth.

I think its really nones afair. I think they have lived long enough to sit there, talk about the great depression and sip on a cup of coffee. Anybody who gets angry over that just needs to go on with theirselves.....bestill I'm sure if you ask politely, they'll invite you and your puppy of your choice into the mix....you nasty creature

Next time I go to Walmart and those men are there I think I will go and get me a coffee and pull a chair up to their table and sit down with them. Then I'm going to ask then if they are checking out the chicks? I want to know what is so important that they need to sit there all day.
Of course I know at other places (Hardees, McDonalds)there are people that do the same thing.

Many churches in this county have a plethora of youth programs with many activities lined up for kids. Churches may have problems, but social activities for the youth isn't one and neither for older folks, with many churches taking them on day trips, and again offering social activities. And, from what I have heard, we have a really cool Senior Citizens' Center.

Y'all know this.

It must have been a long time since some of you went to church. Goddess, are you really saying you think young people need to go to an organized religious activity, conducted by an organized church? hmmmm

Absolutely not, no they don't "need" to. Most adults in Wilkes complain that kids are in the way when out in the public, that they do nothing but get into trouble, if left to their own devices
Churches are supposed to be about community, not just the members on the roll and dole of organized religions.

Open church doors to the community like it's supposed to be. If churches want to make a real and lasting influence on todays society of young people, this is a great opportunity to do so.

If a young person wants to listen to scripture and teachings concerning such scripture, that is an option, if they choose not to do so, don't bar the door to them, give them an honest approach and they will be honest with themselves about their spiritual health to be able to make an informed choice in the matter.

the point is, give kids, teens, adults and yes senior citizens somewhere to socialize and everyone can and will benefit from such activities.

Ya just never know who you can meet and make a change in their lives and they in yours.

That’s just it, they don’t want to go sit at the library or churches they want to go to Walmart where they can see who walks in and out and who they can call and tell on who walked in and who walked by them and who they was with and what they know and what they was wearing and so on and so on.

I'm wondering why one of the 1000s of churches in the Wilkesboro area wouldn't open their door to them and serve coffee and let them hangout and take up their space.

I've often wondered the same thing for the youth of the communities...have churches open their doors on Friday and Saturday evenings for games, gatherings and refreshments.

I’ve saw this topic for a while and been watching it. I usually don’t say anything but I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I went up to the Walmart today, and I went prime time. I noticed as I walked in grocery entrance a old man sitting on the bench, very nice man as he waved his hand at me and then as I made it over to the DD to get me a coffee and a donut BINGO I saw them. I ordered my items and had to go back to my car to eat my donut and drink my coffee. NO seats was available and as I saw only maybe 2 people sitting had a tea or coffee to drink. So now I know myself because I saw it with my own eyes.

If they done that to me the cup of coffee I bought the manager would be wearing it and the donut they could use it for a necklace
