I absolutely support this, I can't think of any positive reason for either term.

I shall certainly miss my favorite term of endearment.

I personally support your decision since it is fairly being applied to both sides of the political spectrum. I see no point in the terms, except to troll. And it will cause a lot of users (both sides) to expand their vocabulary.
I expect the news to upset quite a few posters though.

Personally, I take no issue with the ban. I'm glad it is happening, but I'm sure where there's a will there's an FN way.

After much discussion with several people, I've decided to abolish both "libtard" and "conservatard" (along with several other variations). This will not be retroactive to older posts, but new posts containing either will be flagged for review.
Admittedly, I'm torn on this. On the one hand, I'm hesitant to restrict freedom of speech. The wide majority of other terms that are currently flagged are due either to Google rules or because they reference viruses, scams, or competing sites. This is one of the few times (maybe the only time) that it's done because "I just don't like it".
But on the other hand, it's true that in almost every case I can find either term, the post had no merit and was only used to insult and troll. Which is a violation of the TOS, but I guess that I've gotten more slack than I realized.
So this is being done in an attempt to restrict some of the nastiness and to encourage more civil conversation, with the long-term goal of encouraging some of those 20,000+ lurkers to post more.
If it becomes more trouble than it's worth, though, I may remove this filter in the future.
