The back pages of the N.C. State Magazine has a list of items and things made in N.C. Great when looking for a unique gift to give. Something from N.C. Yes list in all the GoNC websites.

I was originally thinking that any retail business in North Carolina would be able to register and sell their products on all of the GoNC sites. This wouldn't necessarily be restricted to items made locally, although I can definitely put an emphasis on them (a "featured" section of some sort).

There's really no limit to the types of potential items. Clothes, food, housewares, sports equipment... anything, really. A small vendor that sets up at the Open Air Market could use it just as easily as a store like Cooks or Ivy Ridge. I doubt that large retail chains (Walmart, Hibbett Sports, etc) would get involved, though, as they have their own online presence, but I don't know that I would intentionally restrict them.

It was removed because it was off topic for the thread. Besides, I've answered it no less than 5 times.

I like your free want ads. I've only sold 1 item on this site but I have purchased several things over the years. I've read this site every morning at breakfast for a long time. I started looking at it in Yadkin County when it was the Yadkin View. I appreciate what you do for the people of NC. It's a good service. I'm going to list a few things in a day or two. I sold what I listed after about 3 weeks. I paid for ads in several papers but Go- NC was the one that got results.

Sorta of like a mail order catalog. Prictures and price and order through GoNC

Osmosis, I wasn't really thinking of an auction, although I could do that if there's interest. In fact, I wrote an auction program several years ago that I could easily incorporate.

Maybe offer the seller the option of listing their price OR putting it as an auction?

Quack, I, too, like the idea, but as always, my two concerns are:

1. Will people use it in general; and

2. Will businesses use it?

I haven't had any businesses reply yet (at least, not to my knowledge). I obviously don't want to build it and it sit empty

Sort of looking for home made soap, wine, jewelry, chow chow and chestnuts. Things from N. C. all in one spot. Great idea for all the websites. The best of N. C.

I ran across something on here that bothered me. A motorcycle I built and sold 4 or 5 years ago was for sale on this site. The problem is the original owner tore 1st gear out of the bike and traded it back in. I sold the bike as is for parts or repair. So i had to laugh a little when the same bike showed up here in the last month.

I contacted the new owner/seller and asked about the condition. Everything is great, he says, of course that is what I expect from a used car salesman.

If this were CL I would flag the post, not to be a total d*** but to make it inconvenient and in some small way hopefully prevent some one from being ripped off.

Honestly the bike has the same tires and even the same oil filter that was on it 4 plus years ago. I am sure it has changed hands a dozen times but seriously no one has rode the thing.

My wife is already an expert purchaser. Please stop this madness or I will forever be a pauper surrounded by nice things.

excellent idea. i was doing this very type of shopping over a year ago for a gift to ireland. all i had to go by was suggestions from some of the posters here. it turned out fine but would have been easier with a place to shop from
