We grow a garden so I can beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers & make jams & jellies. I try to keep a few bags of flour in the fridge & a couple of cans of shortening in the pantry. We also have chickens for eggs & that is a ready supply of meat if needed. I'm not a pessimist, but I feel it's better to have some plans in place just in case!

If you're running a Generator in a 6 to 8 month long outage, you better have a fortress and plenty of fuel.

That's very true but you can reduce the sound by using a barrier or better yet have them under ground

The sound of a generator running carries a long way in the silence of a power outage, If the outage is for a extended period of time its a beacon for folks who may not be prepared as you are, Just saying

Anything you do is better than nothing.

Can goods is an easy way to start and they are good years after expiration date. Then move in to bulk storage items. Rice, beans, unground wheat that sort of thing. Think about freeze dried and your ability to plant harvest and preserve food.

Remember to have a bait pile. That's to fool the fools that aren't stocking. Disperse you stockpile so that something is compromised you have food left.

Lastly don't share. If you feed someone today they'll be back with their family tomorrow. Best to look just as hungry as you neighbor.

Stock up on staples and whatever you use frequently. Especially things you use that haven't gone up a lot in price. Walmart has Great Value brand flour and canned vegetables that are still reasonably priced. Ingle's often has canned beans and tomatoes on sale.

Heck you can buy a can of green beans cheaper. Oh I have several jars of jelly and peanut butter.

We bought 2 generators couple of years ago. If you have freezers full of food you need backup. I'm prepared, bring it on.

We have a freezer, tv dinners, pies, hamburger, pizzas, french fries and some corn dogs. Can food we have green beans, corn, sweet peas, canned potatoes, tuna and different types of beans. Mayo, mustard, nuts, oatmeal, breakfast bars. We also have Jimmy Dean cheese, bacon, egg whole wheat muffins. JD biscuits, egg, cheese, bacon, they are pretty good. We have more like canned meat, tuna, corn beef, and such. It cost alot to stock and now even more. Good luck, I had fun doing it. We also have years of toilet paper, couple years of paper towels. Used alot of it, need to restock what I've used.
