I think what we need is a full audit of the money running through the hands of the commissioners. Not a chance there is not some skimming or kickbacks involved. No one is that stupid, Along with that a full disclosure of their finances with IRS oversight to account for their income. It is high time these people spending 100 thousand dollars to get a 20 thousand dollar job give account

Everyone should realize that 2 in office now voted for that $22M building plus $10M in interest, and still have plans for remodeling the old building and building another building the same size as the one mentioned above. So you will have an estimate about $90M.

Can the county afford that? Can you afford more taxes? Doesn't a $7M investment sound a lot better than $90M ?

We need a numbers person that understands building costs. And can look at other options instead of following a plan made years ago before the increase in costs and materials. A plan is just good until a better option is available.

They need someone with experience. And someone that knows numbers. We have 2 now that have no skills in that department and has shown it in the last few months.

Let me know ill run as a traditional republican.
I'll also drain any swamp necessary on both sides.
Tired of the same people controlling the same downward spiral.
It's time People of Wilkes County opened there eyes to the people pulling their strings.

The problem with this cycle is that the Republicans will just seat someone to take Stoney's seat through December. For this election cycle, that same leadership committee will also choose someone to run for the rest of the term (December 2024 to December 2026), and the Democrats can do likewise. Those two will ONLY run against each other; the other three seats will be voted upon separately.

That means that, unless the Dems or Pubs pick you, Sheepdog, you cannot run in 2024. You can, however, run in 2026. My assumption would be that the Pubs will pick someone who has already held the seat before, a' la Greg Minton, to fill out the next six months for Stoney's seat. I would further surmise that they will then pick either that person to go ahead and run for the rest of the term, as well.

My best guess would be Brian Minton for the next six months.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Jason! It's on page 2 and I almost missed it

I don't think any sane person can deny what you've shown, that's some pretty overwhelming evidence.

Not quite... Stoney's seat goes back on the ballot in November.

"Each party, the Republican party and the Democratic party will submit a nomination to be on the November ballot. And whoever wins the Fall election will finish the two year term."

You'll have to wait until at least 2026 as the demonRatZ of Wilkes have failed to produce any viable candidates this cycle.

Maybe Tom Morris coulda be persuaded to keep his registration AND go for a write-in in November.

Unofag- since it's all speculative at this point all I can say is that I will vote against any seated official.

If our democrats ask nicely I may consider a write in campaign since they have not nominated anybody.

We should all remember that absolutely no county leader did anything, including the manager until forced to do so. They hoped this would all blow over. It didn't. This needs to be remembered next election.

Commercial roofing jobs for Wilkes County?

dog gate

Posted 8:15 pm, 05/08/2024

I also think that the roofing company that someone keeps bringing up only does commercial work. If this is true, i don't think people on here would be needing a commercial roofer anyway.

Thanks again Jason for speaking and standing up for citizens of Wilkes that love animals. I hope that he will be investigated.

I want to reiterate that I can't SWEAR that anyone canceled because of this. All that I can say is that most businesses that advertise with us never cancel (with the exception of seasonal advertisers), so a larger business that only sticks around for a month or two is unusual.

The issue could be that they were turned off by all of the national political posts, OR the Stoney Greene issue, OR something totally unrelated. It would be inappropriate for me to call anyone out when there are too many other possibilities.
Was it a roofing company that cancelled?
