You have democrats in hayseed, chicken squirt, Wilkes county that are so ashamed to of their party that the disguise of gowilkes is their only avenue of communication. The American republican party has beat the Wilkes democrats down to this.

It's not that I'm afraid of being alone, I just never have been to the movies by myself. But since having children, I cherish all the alone time I can get (even if it's just driving in the car, listening to music alone.)

Have plans today but plan on attending movies by myself sometime soon. I think it'd be a nice break for myself, plus I love movie popcorn. Thanks for the idea/ confidence! Hope you have fun at the movies this morning!

It's just one guy with 25 accounts arguing both sides of every point for fun.

I was going to see glass tonight, but I'll have to put it off because of my chores hahaha
Not sure if I'll see the Kevin Hart movie in the theater but I'll definitely watch it on DVD when it comes out. I go to the about three movies a week and most of them by myself

Pollock being by ourselves doesn’t equal being lonely as we know. Being at the movies as jimbojolly said it’s great unless you do have unthoughtful people. If you go to the10:00 am shows you don’t have that problem. I can eat anything for breakfast/brunch and Popcorn is my favorite snack food lol works for me. Decided to see Green Book for tomorrow morning and see Glass next weekend. Come join one and all it’s a great get away without going far.

mtnlife77, that's a very good question. It would be interesting to get that info.
Even though I always enjoyed going to the movies with someone, going to the movies alone is great, there's no distractions unless you get a rude person in front or directly behind you.

Well smonk it’s people like you that cause people like me not to post at all. I was only trying to answer a question. I feel like maybe if l enjoyed something and wanted to share it with others that may also find some enjoyment in this unsettled world we live in. Instead of people tearing each other apart we need to help build each other up. JMO again. And thanks maybe l will start a movie thread. I’m sure movies aren’t for everyone and some would feel it’s waste of time. As for me l work hard everyday and have since l was 14 yrs old and if my enjoyment is to escape in a movie that brings me joy l want to share that with others. See you at Twin Rivers at 10:00 in the morning. Pollack give it a try it’s great and we are not alone even when we are.

Why not start a thread about the movies that you like to watch?

Hepsibah

There are lots of political threads, but like it's been mentioned before, nobody is forced to read the posts therein. If you (the OP) want people to initiate fewer political threads, please just say so and I'm sure you will be accommodated. haha.

Are you really just frustrated about all the "fuss" about politics? That's a valid attitude, if so.

But you can't control the topic of other people's threads. That would be like saying, "I'm on a diet and therefore you can't eat cake."

An interesting concept to take into consideration: What do we see the community(s), the county(s), the Nation, other Nation(s), 65% -85% discussing, or dealing with, or fighting over, or arguing over, or unsettled over or conversing about?

Marmy, I found what you said about going to the movies alone to be interesting. My husband also doesn't care for movies, I have never been to the movies alone and should try it sometime.

“Sounds like to me” Smonk that Marmy was answering a question she was asked and that you are just mean. I like movies too Marmy but I haven’t see any of the ones you mentioned yet. I did see aqua man last weekend and it was great.

Sounds like to me marmy you like to talk about yourself and I'm guessing most people on GW don't care about you or what movies you like to see or watch.

This is always an interesting topic to me, both because of the concern of why we have so many lurkers that don't post, and because I can compare numbers.

Not counting this thread, there are 9 political threads on the front page right now:

Compare this to the same day in 2012 (our busiest year for posts), and there were 9 political threads on the front page:

I wasn't sure whether to consider the "Cannabis" thread as political, but still... 9 or 10 political threads.

So it's not that we have more political threads now, it's really about the same. Maybe it's that the political threads get more posts in general? Or that the number of people taking part in the non-political threads is lower? Or that the people in the political threads are a lot more confrontational than they used to be?

I honestly don't know why there's this perception.

Thanks for all the support folks. It's hard to post during the day except on break or early morning before the work day. Got one though I'm a movie buff and go a lot on Saturday mornings alone. Husband not a fan and I really enjoy it. I went to see "The Upside" last Saturday with Brian Cranston and Kevin Hart and it was really a good movie. My son was home before returning to the Army and we saw Mary Poppins Returns I really enjoyed that as well. Looking forward to seeing Glass this weekend with my Mother and my Aunt if she can go. I am not one of those women who are afraid to go out to eat alone or to a movie. As much as I love people I also like my own company. I guess it comes with age and wisdom. Have a great weekend Go Wilkes Friends.

Back in the day . . .the day was was 1798 until 1801 and at least 26 people were tried and convicted of various violations of the Sedition Acts--speaking or writing disparaging things about the President (John Adams in this case) and the Congress. I don't remember it but I think the Bitter Old Woman's mother does.

Oh, those were the days.

No one is forced to read political posts, people are encouraged to start other subjects if they wish. It's not a sin to want to keep up with what our politicians are doing.
