Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 5:30 pm Effley Howell, a native of Wilkes County and the founder of Thankful Heritage Museum will speak, at the library, on the history of slavery in America. This year marks the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first Africans to be sold into bondage in North America. He will also discuss Black families as they progressed in churches, schools, businesses, and sports in Wilkes County. This program is free and opened to the public.
