Yes, getting your pet spayed/neutered can be expensive today, costing anywhere from $100 for a small cat to as much as $200 or more for a large dog. That is why the ALL VOLUNTEER Humane Society of Wilkes uses donations to subsidize a low cost Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) for Wilkes County residents.
Come on out and sign up for SNAP and your pet will live a longer, healthier life, and you will help reduce over-crowding of unwanted dogs and cats in Wilkes County.
SNAP is an INCOME RELATED program, so PLEASE bring with you some type of PROOF OF INCOME: Pay Check Stub; Bank Statement; Last Yr Taxes; Social Security Letter, etc. Just about anything that will allow us to determine your annual income. If you receive PUBLIC ASSISTANCE just bring your FOOD STAMP or MEDICAID CARD and that will automatically qualify you. No other proof of income necessary.
Currently, if you earn $35,000 or less annually you can get your DOG or CAT fixed for $25 (Twenty Five Dollars). SEE NOTE BELOW if you earn over income limit. Since LAW REQUIRES ALL PETS to have a current RABIES VACCINATION, if your pet is NOT up to date there will be an additional cost of $7 (Seven Dollars) for this vaccination for a total of $32. You must be prepared to pay full amount upon sign up (Cash or Check).
You will then receive a VOUCHER that is accepted by ALL the Veterinarians in Wilkes County (Wilkes Veterinary Hospital, Animal Hospital of Wilkes, Riverview Animal Hospital), and one in Surry County (Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital). Simply call the vet of your choice and make your pet an appointment. The voucher will be accepted in lieu of payment. Any other vaccinations or vet work will have to be paid for.
NOTE: If you earn OVER $35 K annually as an incentive to help you get your pet spayed/neutered we can issue you a voucher good for from $10 (Cat) to $30 OFF the cost at all local vets (kind of like a coupon). Not necessary to bring any proof of income to receive one of these voucher.
