This is a program to help low income families in Wilkes County get their pets spay/neutered in order to reduce overcrowding of unwanted pets. Provided by DONATIONS to the ALL VOLUNTEER Humane Society of Wilkes (HSOW). Come sign up at the library EVERY Tuesday evening from 6-7 pm. Paperwork takes about 10 minutes. Please try to arrive prior to 645 pm or you may not get signed up until the next week. Library closes at 7 pm.

Program is INCOME RELATED so please bring some type of PROOF OF INCOME with you: Pay Check Stub; Last Year Taxes, Bank Statement, Social Security Benefit Letter, etc. Anything that will allow us to determine that you earn less than $35,000 a year to qualify (SEE NOTE BELOW if you earn over 35K annually). We do NOT keep anything, just take a quick look. If you are on PUBLIC ASSISTANCE just bring your FOOD STAMP or MEDICAID CARD and that will automatically qualify you for the program.

Dogs & Cats spayed/neutered for $25, a savings of a hundred dollars or more from standard vet cost. Since the LAW REQUIRES ALL PETS to have a current rabies vaccination, if your pet is not up to date there will be an additional cost of $7 for this vaccination making your total $32. You must be ready to PAY FULL AMOUNT upon sign up (cash or check). You will then receive a voucher to take to local participating vet offices to get the procedure(s) done. Just call vet office and make an appointment.

NOTE: If you earn over 35K annually as an incentive to help you get your pet(s) spayed/neutered we will issue you a voucher good for from $15 (cat) to $30 (dog) OFF the cost at local vet offices, kind of like a coupon. You do NOT need to provide proof of income to receive one of these vouchers, just come to the library during regular sign up times.
