Sign up is available at the library EVERY Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 7 pm. Please try and arrive before 645 pm since paperwork takes 10-15 minutes and library closes promptly at 7 pm.
SNAP is INCOME RELATED so please bring with you some type of PROOF OF INCOME: Pay check stub, Last year taxes, bank statement, social security letter, etc. We will accept just about anything that will allow us to determine your eligibility of annual income of $35,000 or less. If you receive PUBLIC ASSISTANCE just bring your FOOD STAMP (EBT) CARD or MEDICAID CARD and that will automatically qualify you for the program. (NOTE: If you earn OVER 35K annually see below.)
Until the end of 2014 both DOGS and CATS fixed for $25, a HUGE savings over standard vet cost. LAW REQUIRES ALL PETS TO HAVE A CURRENT RABIES VACCINATION, so if your pet is NOT up to date there will be an additional cost of $7 for this vaccination, for a total of $32. NO LIMIT to the number of pets you can pay to get fixed. Please be ready to pay this amount upon sign up (cash or check only) and you will receive a voucher to take to participating vet.
Then call any of the local veterinarian offices and make your cat or dog an appointment and be sure and take you voucher with you to the appointment.
NOTE: If you earn OVER 35K annually as an incentive to help you get your pets spayed/neutered we can issue you a voucher good for from $15 (cats) to $30 (dogs) OFF the cost at local vets (similar to a coupon). Not necessary to bring proof of income to receive one of these vouchers. Just come during regular sign up times.
You can now sign up for SNAP at the Humane Society of Wilkes building located next to the Hidden Oaks Dog Park in CUB CREEK PARK on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY from 12 pm to 3 pm.
The Humane Society of Wilkes is a non profit ALL VOLUNTEER organization that supports all programs such as SNAP with membership dues ($15 a year) and donations from residents of Wilkes County.
