Oh Annie, you dumb liar. So now you are trying to lump grocery store in with the average of all retailers? Because grocery stores are what you started with. Just grocery stores. And you started with the lie that their product is the only cost of business that they have. So which lie now do you want to run with? You failed to read deeper and see that on average that sales are up, even though margins actually are down, didn't you. Business can be complicated, and we know you've never run one. You just run your mouth and complain about people that create and contribute to society.

One of our local Food Lion stores have eggs at $1.05/dozen and eighteen count cartons for $1.55 everyday low price. I had picked up two eighteen count cartons for Easter and as I was shopping I watched three different customers putting several dozen in their buggies.

And no, I'm not telling which store this is because it's the local honey hole for folks in the area and those of us that stop in on our way home in a neighboring county.

1goddess, at Publix I've found that all depends on what you're shopping for and what sales specials they have. Recently Publix had Dukes Mayo at $4.68 BOGO making it $2.34 each; I had several $1 coupons and paid $1.34 each, add to that I went on Wednesday and used the 5% senior discount so I made out like a bandit.
Also Publix has digital manufacturers coupons that will stack on top of any Extra Savings store coupons further lowering your total grocery bill.

I have also found that some Aldi's have a Lidl compete option allowing them to meet or beat an advertised price at neighboring Lidl stores although that is an option not all Aldi's participate in due to lack of Lidl stores nearby.
Along the same line, some Food Lion stores lower prices on Aldi advertised items to a matching price point and at one particular store we shop, they will go lower than the Aldi advertised price.

You will save big bucks by shopping at Walmart. Best apples in town, I've tried them all. Starkist tuna 2 dollars a can cheaper. Same Natures Own bread 1 dollar cheaper, and the bread isn't thin. I get it at grocery store it's thin, can't hardly spread mayo on it. Dates are better at walmart they sale more and restock more.

There's no one worse than Fakey for taking threads off topic especially when the arguments aren't going his way, and that's most of the time!

Back when we bought our first home we paid $18,500.00, it just sold for $350,000.00. At the time we bought our first house a local Ford Dealership was offering Mustangs for $17,990. Which president or what administration can I blame for the increase?

Food Lion brand loaf of bread that has never been more than around a dollar is now 2.38.

I wonder why groc stores are only 'price gouging ' under illegitimate corrupt joe biden.

As Affic has said they have increases in operation just like the public has in biden' s soaring inflation.

I think it's more likely that the problem is with 'anti the liar' and she is brainwashed stupid .

Annie, retailers have other expenses besides their products. Their utilities have gone up, their labor has gone up, their benefits for employees have gone up.

The FTC report explicitly says that "in the first three-quarters of 2023, retailer profits rose even more, with revenue reaching 7% over total costs..."

Grocery stores have an average 15% markup on the food items they sell.

Most grocery stores have a profit margin of typically 1% to 3%.

Rather than invest in a grocery store, the investor can buy a 10 year CD and receive around 5% + for a lot less risk.

Yea right, it's the grocery stores that are price gouging.

It starts with the distributors who buy from the producers then sell it to the wholesalers, who in their turn sell it to the retailers. Everyone adds to the price of a commodity in order to cover their costs and make a fair profit. Free Market 101 right. Yeah, until the big boy's get a godsend, the pandemic! Global inflation goes through the roof and recovery is slow for the majority of countries "luckily" the USA recovers faster than the rest. But here's an opportunity maintain an artificial inflationary situation by jacking up the prices.

Win/win situation everyone makes more profits and blames it all on Sleepy Joe. Wait a minute, did I say win/win? What about the consumers? Oh him/her, they're used to getting the sheety end of the stick, and the not so bright ones might buy the anti-Biden propaganda that the repub's will use it for.
