The speed limit on West D should really be changed

There is bigger criteria than just deciding to change the speed limit and who can determine the limit. The last time I checked it was US 421 Business which means the federal and state government are involved in determining the speed limit. They will check the numbers of cars, numbers of commuters, number of access roads and driveways, and number of businesses to start. Since the area has actually built up from West Park back toward Wilkesboro, the next time the area is reviewed, the speed limit might be lowered. I didn't know a speed limit was determined by how much the area is patrolled. Lastly, pretend you are in the officers position and meet a vehicle at a high rate of speed or unreasonable rate of speed, is the person going to the hospital or did they just robbed a bank and shot someone? You are now preparing for the stop, what kind of vehicle and color, description of driver and how many people are in the vehicle in case they switch drivers or assisted in the crime and can you get a tag number? Take your time to answer but the officer has a couple of seconds at most and drive a vehicle safely while performing his job. Consider the job tasks, number of hours working and miles driven, it is surprising there is not more accidents.

Exactly! Everybody goes 45-50, cops usually don't pull anyone over unless they're being reckless, and there are relatively few accidents. It just doesn't make sense.

Ironically, if the cop turned around to pull someone that was driving speeding and then caused a wreck himself, then who was the one being more reckless? He didn't call in someone else to chase down the other car so it couldn't have been TOO bad, anyway!

LOL, if you do 45 there, everyone will pass you.

Antithesis: Considering that @ least twenty-six-thousand vehicles travel NW's D Street, I'm not sure that upping the speed limit from 35 to 45 is gonna work.

True, but it's a 45 zone on 421 from before the West D intersection until you get past Lowes. With several stoplights in between. I'm sure that area gets more vehicles than West D, and it has more high-traffic businesses.

If it's OK for that area then there shouldn't be any issue with West D having the same speed limit.

Makes you wonder why they make a speed limit and then don't enforce it. That area is cursed anyway, no business ever makes it long there.

How about...Police stop making U-Turns where they shouldn't. Problem solved.

Given the fact we are living in an age of vast amounts of information and technology I wouldn't be surprised if the state has quit determining speed limits by opinions.

45 would be a reasonable speed limit for that street. I'm not even sure if there's a speed limit sign anywhere on the road, so it would be tough to convict someone for going 35 if they fought it.

If the sign still there, theirs one at Anytime Fitness and one before you get to West Park stop light, 35 speed limit. The speed limit needs to stay at 35 cause not mistaking it's in town limits!!

Since towns are getting into Only Stop Signs instead of lights, just put up more NO U-TURN signs, problem solved.....

Sure make it 45 mph then people will drive 55 mph.

You're right 45 would be a great speed limit because if you run 35 through there everyone on the highway will pass you.

But, 45 is a great number.

If there's no sign, the limit is assumed to be 35.

I mean, 3 people injured and we're stuck paying a ton in repairs and hospital bills, for what? So a cop can chase down someone for probably going 45 on a street that pretty much everyone goes 45, anyway?

There's no reason for it to be a 35 zone.
